Drive-in
The drive-in racking is a static accumulation system. The outer sides of the pallets are supported by rails, allowing the pallets to slide into place.
Benefits
- Ideal for storing high volumes of pallets of the same product
- Perfect for companies that use a "first in/last out" (FILO) inventory movement
- Useful with all types of forklifts
Disadvantages
- Increased investment
Push Back
These pallet racking systems are designed for companies with a moderate mix of high-volume products. Although it is a static system like the drive-in, the push back uses carts that move up and down by gravity.
When a pallet is unloaded, the other pallets on carts slide down for easy access. Conversely, during storage, the products fit further into the rack, again with the help of gravity.
Benefits
- Minimizes occupied floor space by providing 3 to 5 times greater selectivity
- 2 to 5 pallets of storage depth
- Reduces the possibility of damage to forklifts
Disadvantages
- Stores fewer pallets than drive-in
- Requires a high level of investment
